Millcreek and Summit Townships will be implementing new technology to improve traffic on Peach St., according to a join announcement Tuesday.

It will be implemented from Robinson Rd. north through Interchange Rd. to W. Gore Rd.

Fiber optic cables and two 360 panoramic cameras will be installed at each intersection as part of the new system.

It allows for vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle actuation, making traffic flow more fluid and efficient, according to the townships.

This new traffic system will be one of the first in operation in Pennsylvania.

Funding for the project comes from PennDOT's Green Light-Go program.

Millcreek is already looking to expand the technology to other areas of the township. The first project is set to be at W. 38th St. and Caughey Rd. outside of McDowell High School.

Both townships are seeking more grant funding from PennDOT to improve the system, which would allow each traffic light to be responsive and use AI technology to communicate with other lights in the area.
