Legislation to ensure low-speed scooters are properly regulated in Pennsylvania was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee.

Low-speed scooters are small electric or human powered vehicles with two or three wheels. The scooters are manufactured to go no more than 20 miles per hour.

Senate Bill 692 would allow certain municipalities the ability to approve the program locally. This includes ordinances, policies, and regulations for the safety, operation and management of the scooters.

The ordinance must be approved by the Department of Transportation.
