The PIAA Board of Directors unanimously voted Wednesday to sanction girls wrestling, making it the 25th sport under the PIAA.

The addition will become effective July 1. As a sanctioned sport, girls will be able to compete for district and state championships starting for the 2023-24 school year.

Prior to this vote, girls were able to compete on boy's teams. They will now have their own separate teams and wrestle against other girls.

The PIAA needed 100 schools to sponsor the sport before they could vote on it as a sanctioned sport.
