Korzh Dmytro is the goalie from the Ukraine Team Select hockey team who will be coming to the United States for the Ukrainian Hockey Camp and Cultural Exchange in July.

When you get to know him, Dmytro is a 13-year-old kid who just loves to play hockey.

"I [have] play[ed] hockey [for] seven years, and it's my life," Dmytro said. "I have everyday training."

But Dymtro lives in Kyiv, the capital city, which means he has to experience rockets, bombs, and sirens on a weekly basis. This requires him to go into bomb shelters, sometimes even multiple times a week.

"[It's] super difficult and scary," Dmytro said. "It's hard because in [the] bomb shelter, [it's] very cold. I can't sleep most of [the] time."

Erie News Now also had to chance to sit down with two mothers of two different players on the team, Galena Kosenko and Ksenia ("Oksana") Staskeyvich.

Kosenko's son is Egor, and Staskevych's son is Nikita.

Nikita's father went away from home to fight in a small village called Volnovakha in southeastern Ukraine. But just two days ago, Nikita was finally reunited with his father for the first time in nine months.

Egor's father also fought in the war, but he wasn't quite as fortunate. He was killed in a mortal attack last April.

But even after everything these boys have been through, they have persevered and inspired the world with their stories.

"They are proud of their sons," translator Anna Boietska said.

The biggest hope for their sons: to go on and live extraordinary lives.

"We hope that they will get this hope for [a] future life," Boietska said. "We are appreciative of the American side for this opportunity for [the] guys. Thank you so much."
