Sara's Restaurant is less than a half-mile from Waldameer Park.

Waldameer owner Paul Nelson made a number of trips to Sara's Restaurant to enjoy lunch and a conversation.

After Nelson died on Sunday at the age of 89, and Sara's owner Sean Candela remembers the Erie Icon.

Candela told Erie News Now, "He was old school with great passion for the business. His work ethic and people skills were unmatched."

The next "big idea" was always on Nelson's mind, and he would deliver for customers.

He was committed to helping children with special needs and made sure they could enjoy the park.

Candela says there will also be that special link between Waldameer and the short trip to Sara's.
