Limiting Allergy Symptoms During Peak of Season
May through June is springtime allergy season, but over the past few days you might have noticed those allergy symptoms really start to flare up.
Allergy Physician Dr. Sartag Ahmed tells us that those flare ups seem the worst because this week is the peak of that season. She gave us several tips for managing your symptoms.
"Avoidance of triggers is recommended," said Dr. Ahmed. "Medications that might be helpful include antihistamines and nasal sprays."
Not only is it peak allergy season, but the smoke from the Canada wildfires has also played a role in worsening allergies.
"That and with air pollution too. There has been an increase in CO2 levels that has led to worse allergies," said Dr. Ahmed.
If you feel like allergy season is getting progressively worse each year, you're right. Dr. Ahmed says that due to global warming, we've been having milder winters, which has led to longer springtime allergy seasons.
