The city of Erie is hoping to move forward with plans to transform the old Miller Brothers Power Equipment property into a new public safety building.

Erie City Council members and Mayor Joe Schember recently met with a design firm that conducted a cost analysis on the construction project.

The company---Bostwick Design Partnership---determined that the upgrades will cost an estimated $30 million.

Miller Brothers closed back in August of 2021, after 93 years of business. If purchased by the city, it will be transformed into a public safety build for the city's police, fire, and public works departments.

It will also replace the fire department's Marsh Street facility. Erie City Council is now reviewing hot the project will be funded.

"There seems to be some hope that our state reps have some allocations that they will be able to direct our way," said Erie City Council President Chuck Nelson. "There's a lot of ARP money that while allocated will be reallocated and cycle through revenue replacement and then there is some hope that we are looking at the second phase might be addressed through the Department of Justice grants."

Mayor Schember's administration will present a resolution for the project to Erie City Council next Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
