The James Conner Courage award, named in honor of McDowell graduate and current NFL Running Back, James Conner, was awarded in Pittsburgh on Friday night at Acrisure stadium's UPMC Club.

The award was presented to Pittsburgh City Narcotics Detective and SWAT member John Henson.

Three years ago, was diagnosed with a difficult form of blood cancer. He underwent multiple rounds of chemo and a clinic trial.

Fearing for his life, Henson went into a deep depression. Eventually, he was able to rally and beat the disease.

Conner, in Erie for his football camp and unable to attend Friday's event, congratulated Henson via Zoom.

John Henson is now cancer free and back on the job.
