WNY Couple Burglarized, Dog Killed Hours After Michael Burham Escape
Just hours after suspected killer Michael Burham escaped the Warren County Jail, a couple in Busti, NY reported a burglary, just 16 miles North of where Burham escaped.
The couple says they believe they previously had seen Burham living in their neighbor's vacant house in May after he was suspected of killing a Jamestown woman.
"Michael knew the people and moved out of the house because he used to come there and play cards at card parties," said Harold Lobb, a victim of the burglary, who recounted when he first saw Burham in May. "That's how he knew the house was vacant."
"Because it's so dark out here... see the illumination in the window, you could tell it was a person, you could tell it was a good sized man," said Lauraine Peterson, Lobb's girlfriend and another victim. "And who else is hanging out in a empty house?"
The couple says some men's clothing was taken, and their dog was killed.
"We had a break in this morning, about 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., maybe 11:30 a.m. Some clothing of mine came up missing and they ended up my dog got killed here at the same time."
Peterson, says her dog likely ran out after Burham, and got hit by a car.
"I knew I had shut the door so somebody had to have been in the house to let them out," said Peterson. "But if you walked in the house and she didn't know you, she would go after you because she was that protective of us."
"These aren't just coincidences. They're odd things that are going on," added Peterson.
Police have not officially confirmed if Burham was the one who burglarized the home.
Unconfirmed reports say Burham is in police custody.
