Some local musicians with autism will soon have a chance to showcase their talents.

A group called Band Together will partner with the Erie Sports Center, hosting a concert performed by musicians with autism.

The event will feature Band Together groups from Erie and Pittsburgh, as well as local band The Groove. Organizers say it's a chance to show that a disability does not equal an inability to succeed.

"Just because someone has autism doesn't mean they can't play a musical instrument," said Joe Lang, Lakeshore Community Services. "Just because someone is in a wheelchair doesn't mean they can't. I mean, people with disabilities always get labeled, and that's what we're trying to break, those labels. Anyone with autism, anyone with a disability can do anything they set their mind to."

The inaugural concert is scheduled for Saturday, September 23. Tickets are $12 apiece and include a token for a free round of mini-golf and a session in the batting cages.
