A Meadville woman is dead following a crash in Hayfield Township, Crawford County, on Saturday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

It happened in the 14400 block of State Highway 98 around 7:14 p.m.

A Chevrolet Tahoe SUV was heading south State Highway 98, and its driver was attempting to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone when a Subaru Crosstrek was approaching in the same lane, troopers said.

Both vehicles swerved at the same time, but the front passenger-side bumper of the SUV hit the frontend of the car, according to investigators.

The SUV went over a small embankment, rolled onto its roof and caught fire, state police said. The driver - a 25-year-old Conneaut Lake man - was able to get himself out of the vehicle. He suffered minor injuries.

The Subaru came to a rest in the roadway, and its driver - Rebecca Doughty, 39, of Meadville - was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
