The Erie Blue Coats are known for their involvement in local schools, trying to spread a message of nonviolence in the community.

The Blue Coats took to West 18th Street on Wednesday for a non-violence demonstration.

Up and down the sidewalk, members of the Blue Coats held signs saying "Nonviolence Begins with Me" and "A Safe Community Begins with Me."

Hot dogs, snacks, and drinks were served to local community members along with informational brochures.

As one member puts it, she says that it is rewarding to be a part of something greater than yourself.

“People don’t have to stop, but they do because they know what we stand for,” said Antoinette Villarreal, Team Leader. “So, the Blue Coats are a staple of love. You see us and the hearts on our vests, that’s a staple of love.”

The Blue Coats also made sure that kids were safe crossing the street right in front of the Thurston Child Care Center.
