Travelling in Local Black Cabs vs Airport Taxi ServicePhoto from Unsplash

I remember back in the day when I would go on family holidays, or girly trips away during my teens and early twenties. We’d arrive at the airport on our way home, and pretty much always jump into a black cab.

The same can be said for finding a ride home after a night out. The cities tend to be lined with black cabs, all eagerly waiting for customers to jump in and take them home. The problem for me? Top prices, pretty much every time.

Then along came app based taxi companies, where you can now control everything surrounding your taxi via an app. From the pickup time to receiving a quote before even getting into the car, it can all be controlled by the ease of your phone.

Prices for taxis are much better, where the meter doesn’t double every two minutes. You can track where your drive is before they arrive, and can even rate the experience once you have got out.

However, there are still faults with this type of service, which I feel have been shown up more since I started to discover airport transfers which come with a difference.

There is a company called Smartzi, which aims to bring the app based service into our lives, but by ensuring prices remain low, and that it works for both the customer and the driver.

Although technologies regarding travel is constantly rising, the quality of the rider experience is going down.

This is because taxi drivers aren’t always treated like talented employees, who should be building their own credibility and business. Instead, they are just ‘part of a big business’, which means it doesn’t make a different to them if they build up a strong customer base of happy travellers. Technically, taxi drivers can build their own successful business, holding their own insurance, websites, marketing and more. They can manage to get cheap insurance for uber drivers if they choose to go down the Uber route, too.

Smartzi has now come along, which is an innovative, ethical technology UK business encouraging its drivers to think and behave like business owners. This means that they feel passionate about providing a better service, lower fares and happier Drivers making more money for their hard work

Riders who use Smartzi will benefit from the lowest fares and better customer service, and also, the drivers get the benefits too. They are armed with their own buisness cards, low comission rates and the freedom to set their own personal rates, working times and promotional codes.

This means that if you are to use Smartzi instead of a black cab when travelling to or from the airport, you can get hold of an airport transfer discount.

Smartzi also offers the driver a personal code to share to become a ‘Preferred Driver’. If you – as the rider – then uses a preferred driver booking, the commission fee is just £1 per ride.

For those looking at a new way to travel to and from airports, Smartzi could be the best move, way ahead of black cabs. They are the most flexible operator in London, allowing app or phone, cash or card, pre-book or on-demand, long trips and short hops.

I’ll definitely be keeping this one in mind!
