Baseball, Esports and Disc Golf Competitions to Get Underway in Erie this Weekend
Baseball teams, esports squads and top disc golf players will be facing off in events this weekend in Erie, according to the Erie Sports Commission.
The Millcreek Riptide will host its 9th annual Back 2 School Bash at the Walnut Creek Baseball Complex. 25 youth teams will compete in two divisions – an 8U Coach Pitch division and a 9U division. Games will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, with play continuing Saturday from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and championship play taking place on Sunday from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Velocity Network, Gannon University and Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5 teamed up this year to host the inaugural Flagship City Esports Invitational: “The Battle of Lake Erie.” High school, college and open play will be offered throughout the weekend. It will feature games such as Super Smash Bros., Rocket League and Mario Kart. There is also a grand prize pool of more than $3,500 in gaming gift cards, hardware from Logitech and MSI, and more.
The Lake Erie Disc Golf Club will host a unique tournament Sunday. Play will begin at 9 a.m. at The Ridge Disc Golf Course at Pleasant Ridge Park in Fairview. The second round of play will be at Road Apple Disc Golf Course in Cambridge Springs and start at 1:30 p.m.
