The woman kidnapped by Michael Burham in May testified during a court hearing Monday as a district judge ruled there was enough evidence for the charges in that case and the escape to proceed.

Additional charges were also filed against Burham in both cases.

Burham, 34, led police on a nine-day manhunt after escaping from the Warren County Jail last month.

The escape came after a multi-state manhunt which ended with Burham's arrest in South Carolina in May. State police said he forced a Sheffield couple to travel with him in their car to that state.

Burham was on the run since authorities named him as their chief suspect in the May murder of a Jamestown, New York woman. He's also facing rape and arson charges in Chautauqua County.

Warren County District Attorney Rob Greene recused himself from prosecuting the escape charges due to his role with the jail, and representatives from the state attorney general's office appeared in court Monday to handle the case.

Burham has been held at the Erie County Prison since he was arrested following the escape.
