The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be closing two rest areas in the northwest region due to upcoming renovation projects. 

The Pennsylvania Welcome Center on Interstate 80 eastbound in Mercer County will be closed beginning September 1. 

PennDOT says the restrooms, parking lot, and outdoor rest area will remain open until September 25. The entire facility is expected to reopen in January 2025. 

Additionally, the rest stop on Interstate 90 eastbound near the Ohio border will be closed from October 10, 2023 to January 2025. 

PennDOT is recommending travelers use the rest stop on I-80 eastbound in Venango County, and I-79 north/southbound in Mercer and Crawford counties. 

Rest stops on I-79 northbound and southbound in Lawrence County is currently closed. However, the are expected to reopen on September 8.
