Just hours before the Erie Otters opened the preseason, the team announced Georgy Toroptsev had finalized an OHL scholarship and development agreement.

Toroptsev was a 10th-round pick by the Otters in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection Draft.

"Georgy plays a high energy, in-your-face style of game. He came into training camp relentless and wasn't intimidated by anyone. He trusted the process and stayed dedicated to becoming an Otter," said Erie Otters  director of hockey operations Scott Grieve. "We are excited to welcome him and his family to the Otters, and we look forward to working with him to further his development."

Toroptsev spent last season in the Greater Toronto Hockey League's North York Rangers U18 AAA program. He played with Otters' goalie prospect Jacob Gibbons.

Toroptsev is expected to make his preseason debut Friday against Brantford when the two teams play in the preseason opener at the Erie Insurance Arena.

"Georgy has shown great determination and perseverance in earning this opportunity. Georgy took nothing for granted and was bound and determined to become an Erie Otters," said Erie Otters general manager Dave Brown. "We want him to bring his work ethic and relentless attitude to the rink every day."

Toroptsev will wear number 8 for the team.
