Benefit Helps With Recovery Cost From Motorcycle Accident
At this benefit there's an auction, food and football, all to help with the financial costs for Jesse Stadler, who for the past few months has been recovering from a motorcycle accident and needed to undergo multiple surgeries.
"I had six surgeries and was told I won't be able to walk pretty much, and now I'm here and I can walk," Stadler said.
Now standing, he invited the community out to have a good time. One person whose been there since the start was his cousin, Nick McHenry.
"My cousin has been with me the whole time through the process, and he's the one that saved my leg before anybody else was there, and he did the tourniquet on my leg and saved my life," Stadler said.
McHenry said he was just happy that his cousin was alive.
"It was hard to watch. I was, I was frozen. He helped talk me through it, you know, but I'm glad they were able to save it and get it back on, because it was just crazy seeing him walking around already,"
McHenry said.
Businesses in the community pitched in for event prizes, and the community showed up to support.
"It just means a lot. It means, . . . you can't even express my words. Like it means so much, to come and help, when you're a mom and has a child, and get that phone call," Jesse Stadler's mom Shelly Stancliff said.
One of the supporting organizations was the Injured Motorcycle Rider Foundation, which helps injured motorcycle riders with some of the out-of-pocket needs that insurance doesn't cover.
Co-founder Steve Weston said it's up to every one on the road to be vigilant.
"There's a lot of distracted driving going on in motor vehicles, and it's very difficult to ascertain who's going to pull in front . . .There's this left turn thing that seems to be plaguing not just motorcycling community, it's everybody. So everybody's got to pay attention when you're in your car. Just drive just to get to where you're going. Give yourself plenty of time," Weston said.
