City of Erie Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

The City of Erie is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, according to Mayor Joe Schember.
It's observed from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
The celebration provides an opportunity to recognize the cultural achievements of Hispanic and Latin Americans, as well as their cultural heritage.
"It gives us an opportunity to showcase what we contribute to the community and the history," said Eddie Ocasio, Erie Latino Leadership Association. "A lot of people sometimes don't understand the difference between Hispanic and Latino. We take the opportunity of this month and and really try to get all the messages out there. We're excited to celebrate it this month."
There will be a fiesta in Perry Square, which will include Hispanic food, a dance competition and live music, on Sept. 30 from 3 to 7 p.m.
