A woman admitted to drinking liquor while driving after troopers were contacted about a reckless driver in a construction zone on the interstate in Erie County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

It was reported Monday around 8:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 in Girard Township.

A witness told state police a Ford Focus car was swerving, traveling at fluctuating speeds and hit about 10-12 construction signs without stopping.

Troopers pulled over the vehicle, discovered the 48-year-old woman behind the wheel was impaired by alcohol and took her into custody, state police said.

The woman said she had been drinking Black Velvet liquor while driving from West Virginia, according to investigators.

Charges are pending.
