Lumberjack and Jills from all over the world will be competing this weekend at the 17th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival.

The festival will be held at Sheffield Memorial Park, October 13th through the 15th. This year they will be featuring 22 lumberjills and over 45 lumberjacks, including a team of four men from Sweden and several men and women from Canada.

Over 50 craft and food vendors will be on-site as well offering a wide variety of items for the public.

This long-standing tradition began in 1966 and enjoyed a vibrant comeback 17 years ago after a chance conversation between the event organizer, Sandy Setili, and her son Nathan.  He had begun competing as a lumberjack and complained to her about the lack of competitions in the area.

"That is when I said to him, well you know there used to be this festival in Sheffield," said Sandy Setili, Event Organizer. "And so that is how it came about.”

The festival is free to the public.  For more information visit here.
