Pennsylvania State Police are investigating two deaths on Interstate 90 overnight.

The first was reported just before 10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes at mile marker 44.4 near the North East exit.

A pedestrian - later identified as Jerry Cox Jr. - was discovered lying on the interstate, according to state police.

Troopers said he was fatally hit by a tractor trailer, and the incident remains under investigation.

The eastbound lanes in this area were closed for hours but reopened Friday morning.

In a separate incident hours later, Belle Valley Fire Department was called for a brush fire around 2:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near mile marker 30.

That's when human remains were discovered on the shoulder of the interstate, according to state police.

Investigators said the victim is a woman, but her identity is not being released at this time.

The westbound lanes were closed from the Bayfront Connector at exit 32 to Route 8 at exit 29 for several hours but have since reopened.

Troopers are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity around 1-1:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 90 near Morehouse Rd. to call the Erie station at 814-898-1641.

State police are also requesting anyone with information on the fatal crash to call the Erie station.
