The coroner has revealed the cause of death for the woman found dead along Interstate 90 in Erie County last week.

The victim - Michelle Tayse, 48, of Nashville, Tennessee - died from multiple stab wounds to the chest, according to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook.

Firefighters from Belle Valley found her body around 2:30 a.m. Friday after they responded to a brush fire along Interstate 90 westbound near mile marker 30, which is between the Route 8 and Wesleyville exits. Her remains were discovered on the shoulder of the interstate.

For state police, it started as a suspicious death investigation, but Erie News Now was first to report over the weekend that after an autopsy, the coroner ruled the death as a homicide.

We're told investigators are still working to determine where Tayse was killed and how she ended up in Erie County.

Crime Section Commander Lt. Mark Weindorf told Erie News Now state police are aggressively pursuing leads with assistance from Nashville Metro Police.

Nashville Police confirmed they are aware of the case and that Erie investigators are taking the lead.

State police ask anyone who saw anything suspicious along the interstate early last Friday between 1 and 3 a.m. to call the Erie station at 814-898-1641.
