A credit union in Erie is doing its part to help keep people from going hungry this holiday season.

Widget Financial partnered with the Housing Authority to provide Thanksgiving meals to residents of the John E. Horan Garden Apartments.

The credit union distributed 100 turkey dinners to residents at the community center on Wednesday.

A representative from Widget Financial said their mission extends well beyond banking needs, and it strives to serve and support their members and neighbors in tangible ways.

"As a charity in giving back, the community is huge for us," said Mike Williams, vice president of marketing for Widget Financial. "That's a big part of what we do. We have a lot of members that are part of the Housing Authority, so we love giving, getting out here, providing them some turkey dinners and working with the work of the police force here to help distribute things to the neighbors. It's great for them to to get out and be part of this as well."

This is the eighth year for Widget Financial's turkey giveaway.
