Winter is here and with it comes the challenge of navigating icy roadways.
Yesterday alone there were over seven reported vehicle accidents in Warren County.

The department of Public Works in the City of Warren along with municipalities all over the county are working tirelessly to combat hazardous road conditions.

They have prepared large batches of salt and skid mix to keep roads safe and advise drivers to be wary of black ice, which has been inundating our region.

Officials are asking drivers to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for your commute and to be patient, not only with other drivers on the road, but with road crews as well.

“Sometimes we get that snow at 5:00AM or 6:00AM when people are about to go to work, and they wake up and look at the streets packed with snow and say what’s the DPW doing? Well, sometimes it just hits at the wrong time," said Joe Reinke, City of Warren Superintendent of Public Works. "We have close to eighty lane miles of roads to take care of with three trucks, typically.”

Townships are also requesting for drivers to be cautious and aware while following plow trucks, and to avoid parking on side streets that need to be cleared.

“When the plow trucks are out, we request that everybody not park on the streets," said Lea Ann Adams, Pleasant Township Secretary Treasurer. "Because it makes it difficult for our guys to move around vehicles. So, we request that all the cars be off of side streets.”

Whether you are headed to work, school or simply running errands, officials advise everyone to take it slow and stay in control.
