The jail inmate who walked away from treatment at UPMC Hamot over the weekend while on a medical furlough is now back behind bars.

The inmate is identified as 31-year-old Alex Rabold, from Hermitage, Pa.

Jail officials told WFMJ that Rabold turned himself in.

Rabold had a long list of prior charges and was awaiting a preliminary hearing on possession of a controlled substance.

Over the weekend, he was at UPMC Hamot for treatment of a medical issue on a medical furlough authorized by Mercer County President Judge Daniel Wallace.

Judge Wallace issued a bench warrant for his arrest, and Mercer County's Chief Detective has filed an escape charge, a 3rd-degree felony.

Rabold was at the hospital without the requirement of guards.

UPMC Hamot officials stated "an individual who is not in the custody of law enforcement may leave the hospital against medical advice or at their own discretion."

Mercer County District Attorney Pete Acker told Erie News Now on Monday there were reports Rabold is back in the Shenango Valley area, and Sharon Police Department were actively looking for the suspect.
