Christazia Williams was one of many people who was looking for a new job at UPMC's job fair on Tuesday.

Williams was looking for an administrative role at UPMC, "More like an office job, being an assistant or housekeeping or dietary possibly."

She wasn't the only one looking for a job change. Fay Pacley shared what positions he was looking at, "Housekeeping, I had worked in janitorial work , and that's all I did and I want to try something different."

UPMC was looking to fill a number of roles at their job fair, but some of the areas they need the most help in is nurses and nursing aids.

Linda McGahen, a recruiter at UPMC explained, "We have positions for pretty much everything you would want to do, from security to transport, to outpatient positions to nursing, nursing support , housekeeping, central staircase processing, surgical techs, pretty much anything you can think of, you can probably find here at this job fair."

The hiring event gave people the chance to learn about the positions and meet some of the people they could work with. "Candidates have the opportunity to interact with the leaders that are here, they can meet them face to face, learn a little bit more about the positions, perhaps interview and get a job on the spot, which is a lot more personal than applying for a job online", explained McGahen.

Some candidates chose to apply for positions based on the culture that UPMC offers. As Shakira Ruiz who was applying for a job explained, "I've always wanted to work at Hamot since I was little, I love helping people."

Others were interested in the different career options. "There's a lot of good opportunities and for you to not have any experience or anything like that, that's nice, it's real nice. Because a lot of people in the community need jobs like this", said Williams.

If you missed out on the event, you can head to UPMC's career website to learn more about open positions and apply for a job.
