Chautauqua County Gears up for Return of Mayville Winter Festival

The Mayville Winter Festival will be returning to Lakeside Park on Friday, February 16.
The festival will run from Friday, Feb. 16 though Sunday, Feb. 18.
The festival will open with the lighting of the beautiful wooden castle at 6 p.m. on Friday. The wooden castle was handcrafted in Mayville and will work as a stand-in since there was no ice to construct an ice castle this year.
“This festival has a very long history in Mayville, going back to its inception in the 1980s when my grandfather, Don Hogan, brought the concept of an ice castle to Lakeside Park," said Festival Chair Brian Pender. "For most of the years since then the festival has been running with or without a castle in place. While we always hope for some winter weather for atmosphere, we are prepared to run the annual Mayville Winter Festival in any conditions, with concessions, vendors, activities, and fun!”
After the castle is lit, the Festival King and Queen will be crowned. Attendees can vote for the King and Queen now through February 12 via text. Information about the candidates can be found here.
The festival will also feature food trucks from 5-8 p.m.
