A couple of fires in the city of Erie kept firefighters busy on Saturday from afternoon to evening.

The most recent blaze happened at 801 West 21st Street.

It broke out around 4:45 p.m. in a wood frame structure with two retail spaces on the first floor and an apartment above.

Erie Fire Inspector Don Sauer said one of the businesses spaces on the first floor was vacant, the other had gaming equipment inside.

Sauer said the fire started on the first floor, but because of old balloon construction, spread through the walls to the second floor apartment.

The inspector said a tenant had recently rented the upstairs apartment and was in the process of moving in, but was not at home when the fire broke out.

The inspector has not pinpointed an exact cause of the fire.

No one was hurt in the firefight.
