Enrique's restaurant at West 18th and Liberty Streets is closed until further notice after a fire broke out in apartments above the business on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 1:00 p.m. Erie fire officials say flames broke out in the area of three vacant apartments above Enrique's Southeast Mexico Taqueria and Tortilleria.

According to Erie Fire Inspector Don Sauer, all three apartments were in the process of being renovated.

Firefighters knocked down the fire, but the firefight caused heavy water damage to the restaurant below on the first floor.

The power had to be shut off to the building.

Fire officials say the restaurant will be closed until the damage can be repaired.

Sauer said he has not determined yet exactly what sparked the fire.

UPDATE:  Enrique's Southeast Mexico Taqueria & Tortilleria was operating out a building at West 18th and Liberty Streets until a fire broke out in February of last year.

After the fire the restaurant began temporarily operating out of the Que Abides Pit Stop
