In preparation of the Great American Eclipse, the Crawford County Commissioners are considering opening up the Crawford County Fairgrounds for camping.

"The need for camping came up from the Crawford County Fair Board because they got some phone calls from hotels, and most of the hotels are already booked," said Crawford County Commissioner Eric Henry.

"They wanted to have an option for people to camp at the fairgrounds."
The commissioners need to approve the proposal, but Henry says he expects that to happen soon.

Under the proposal, the fairgrounds will be open on April 6 through April 8. Campers can pay $250.00 for all three nights or $100 a night.

All of the money raised will go to the Crawford County Fair Board, to help cover the costs of the Crawford County Fair in August.

"It's going to be a good area for viewing," said Henry. "Anytime the fair board can look at ways to make some additional revenue, we always support them."

Once approved, campers will be permitted on the fairgrounds after 4:00 p.m. on April 6, and must leave the fairgrounds by noon on April 9.
