A new ruling from Pennsylvania's Supreme Court will have an impact on high school sports.

The court ruled the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, better known as the PIAA, is, in fact, a public entity. That means it's subject to the state's Right-to-Know Law.

In a 28-page opinion, the Commonwealth Court upheld a two-year-old decision from the Office of Open Records that the PIAA has to abide by the Right-to-Know Law. The judges said the group takes tax dollars and money from more than 1,400 public schools and, as a result, qualifies as a public entity.

The case stems from a Bucks County resident's request for some PIAA financial records.

One state representative called the decision a win for all of Pennsylvania, saying taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent.
