With only a little over a month until the total solar eclipse comes to Erie, many residents may start looking for eclipse glasses.

Some local businesses, such as VisitErie and Country Fair, are hoping to make it a little bit easier to find the necessary eye protection on the once in a lifetime day.

Starting March 25th, Country Fair will give away one pair of eclipse glasses with each purchase while supplies lasts; and VisitErie will give away eclipse glasses starting on April 5th at various rest stops and visitor centers throughout Erie.

"April 5th through the 8th, we will have [eclipse glasses] on a first come first serve basis at the Interstate 79 rest stop northbound between Saegertown and Edinboro exit," said Christine Temple, Director of Communications of VisitErie. "And also at the Erie visitor center inside the Tom Ridge [Environmental] Center, and lastly we will have glasses at the I-90 welcome center just across the Pennsylvania and New York border."

"We are so excited to have 100,000 pairs of these glasses that we're giving away to our customers starting March 25th while supply lasts," said Paul Rankin, Regional Vice President of Country Fair. "It's to anyone who makes a purchase, or also those people who are members of our Club Citgo program."

On the day of the eclipse, Erie News Now will give away 5,000 pairs of eclipse glasses to attendees at our eclipse watch party at the Erie Sports Center.
