Pennsylvania State Police have arrested a man for the homicide of a pregnant, Amish woman in the Spartansburg area on Monday.

Shawn Cranston, 52, of Corry, was taken into custody Friday on charges including homicide, homicide of an unborn child, burglary and trespass.

A family member found Rebekah Byler, 23, dead at the residence on Fish Flats Rd. in Sparta Township, Crawford County, just before 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to state police.

Investigators said they responded and found Byler, who was pregnant, dead at the scene. The criminal complaint said he killed Byler by shooting her in the head and slashing her throat.

Byler's two children were inside the home when she was discovered, troopers said.

The arrest was announced hours after police activity could be seen near the Dollar General store in Corry around 9 p.m. Friday.

The store was shut down, and a red Jeep was the focus of investigators. A Jeep matching that description was listed as the defendant's vehicle on the criminal complaint for the homicide.

Cranston was arraigned and taken to the Crawford County Prison without bond. He is tentatively scheduled to appear before a district judge for a preliminary hearing March 15.

Troopers did not disclose how they identified Cranston as suspect or a motive for the killing.
