Erie Metropolitan Transportation Authority (EMTA) will be running a special shuttle and is encouraging people to use public transportation during the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8 due to the expected traffic congestion.

All regularly scheduled fixed route services will still run, but paratransit LIFT services will only be providing medical-only trips.

EMTA will be offering a complimentary shuttle, which will provide service to the Intermodal Center, travel across E. Front St., turn south on State St., travel along east Perry Square, service the shelters at 7th & French and 10th & Holland and return to the Intermodal Center.

The shuttle will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until traffic clears. Passengers wishing to use the shuttle should wait at the shelter locations or designated stops.

Riders may also see adjustments and delays in service on April 8.

“National and local emergency personal have advised us to expect congestion like we have never experienced before,” said Jeremy Peterson, EMTA CEO. “Given this information, the EMTA will be as proactive as possible and we urge our passengers to be proactive as well by planning ahead and frequently checking for EMTA updates.”

EMTA said the public can use its mobile apps to plan ahead.
