What is the Top Issue for Black Voters in 2024?
President Joe Biden delivered the State of the Union address to a divided Congress.
One of the groups of voters that both Biden and the presumptive Republican nominee former President Donald Trump have attempted to appeal to is Black voters.
Here in Erie County county, three issues are on the top of their minds.
Karen Thomas, co-owner of Pineapple Eddie Southern Bistro, said the economy is the most important issue as well as helping out small business owners.
"I think it is important for our president to understand that those of us who jumped into the small business pool are looking for opportunities to not only get a good start but to grow.
We are the ones who make things look eclectically different and so it is very important that we have an opportunity to be able to not only exist but to be able to level up when we need to and have some level or measure of economic support to do that," Thomas said.
Hayes Moses, an educator at Eagle's Nest Program of Academic Distinction, said education is hugely important.
"Education is base, education is everything and it goes with that old adage, give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and feed him for life.
The fact that children in minority and low-income neighborhoods do not have the same access as those in certain neighborhoods, that is the issue and that is what gives us an even playing field," Moses said.
Floyd Hull, Mentor for the Achievers Entrepreneurial Hub, said abortion is the top issue but other issues are also high priorities.
"I do not really say go for it, but I think a woman should have a right to choose and I think many Black voters that go there will consider that.
"When we deal with abortion, we got to deal with the economy, the drug epidemic and the right to treat each other right, not be crabs in a barrel, and worry about our community," Hull said.
