The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute will host two cancer screenings in Erie. The first will be held on Saturday, April 13 at the AHN Cancer Institute.

Registration is now open and will close on April 5 or once all appointments are filled. Those interested in attending do not need to be AHN patients.

According to AHN, the screening events in 2023 attracted 188 patients who received a total of 417 screenings, with 334 screenings yielding normal results and flagged 83 abnormal results.

Patients with abnormal results are advised to receive further testing.

“Proactive health screenings are crucial to catching any disease in its infancy, which is why we encourage individuals to prioritize routine cancer screenings as an integral part of their health care routine,” said James Betler, DO, system director for the AHN Cancer Institute and director of AHN’s cancer screening program. “By providing cancer screenings on a Saturday, we hope those who may not have the opportunity during the week take advantage of this potentially lifesaving one-stop-shop for cancer detection.”

Patients may receive up to seven different screenings in one day, all at one location. Screenings may include:

  • Breast cancer (ages 40+)
  • Cervical cancer (ages 21-65)
  • Colorectal cancer (ages 45+)
  • Head and neck cancers (ages 18+)
  • Lung cancer (ages 50-77 with a history of smoking)
  • Prostate cancer (ages 45+)
  • Skin cancer (ages 18+)

The second screening will be held at St. Vincent on October 12. Those interested in attending the April session should call 814-452-5960.
