A federal jury has convicted an Ohio felon on charges for the armed robberies of pharmacies in western Pennsylvania including Erie and Edinboro, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Abdulrahman Jamea, 26, was found guilty of seven crimes — one count each of conspiracy to commit armed pharmacy robbery and conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances, three counts of armed pharmacy robbery, and two counts of pharmacy robbery.

The jury reached its decision after two-and-a-half hours of deliberations.

A total of 19 witnesses testified during the trial, which determined Jamea participated in a conspiracy to rob pharmacies of highly addictive opioids and stimulants between September 2018 and July 2019, the Department of Justice said.

The conspiracy included the robberies of pharmacies in Beaver, Bridgeville, Edinboro, Erie and the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, investigators said.

During three of the robberies, Jamea and his coconspirators used a firearm to force pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to open the locked safes where the controlled substances were kept, according to evidence presented in court.

Jamea then distributed the stolen drugs in the Columbus, Ohio, area, according to investigators.

His sentencing is set for July 31.

For the most serious offense, Jamea faces is 25 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

He is currently serving a prison sentence of more than 40 years for multiple counts of felonious assault with a firearm in Ohio.
