The fourth building is coming down as part of the Gateway Project to Presque Isle. The building was a place where people frequented for years to get perch dinners and sandwiches.

The Joe Roots Grill on the corner of West 8th and Peninsula Drive is now being torn down. This is the final building to be demolished during what is phase one of the project to demo vacant properties and beautify the entrance area going into the state park.

Last Monday, Empire Excavating started the demolition of the row of rooms behind the former Bel-Air Hotel.

Work then moved to the Manor Motel, and earlier this week, the nearby Sand Bar came down, also along West 8th.

Millcreek Township Supervisor Kim Clear says phase 2 of this project will be grass planting, done by the end of May.

Around the same time, phase three will start. Phase three will include the formation of a citizen and stakeholder committee to gather ideas.
