The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is preparing to begin a $8.9 million resurfacing project that will give motorists a smoother ride on more than nine miles of Interstate 79 in Crawford County.

Work is expected to begin Monday, April 15, weather permitting.

According to PennDOT, the project will include restoring 9.68 miles of highway from the Mercer County line to the Route 285 interchange. Milling and paving will also be done at the Exit 141 on and off ramps.

Additional work will include guiderail updates, drainage improvements, and minor bridge rehabilitation on two different structures south of the Geneva Swamp.

Work is expected to be completed in October 2024.

PennDOT aid motorists will encounter long-term lane restrictions and should be alert for traffic pattern shifts.

More information on the project can be found on PennDOT's website.
