The S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie held their annual open house at their hatchery along the bayfront over the weekend.

Each year they open their doors to show the public what they do to raise and hatch native fish species and release them into the bay waters.

On Sunday, visitors could see brown trout, although most of them were released just before the season began, about 800 of them.

Attendees could also see about 1.2 million walleye fry, each about 1/2 inch long.  They will be released on Tuesday if the weather is right. The goal of all this is to support fishing of and to introduce kids to the sport as well.

The water temperature has to be just right to release the walleye fry.
