At the Crawford County School District committee meeting, board members discussed potential new policies that might violate sexual orientation and gender identity protections.

At the meeting, you could tell by when people were clapping, what stance they supported. There were both residents on board with these policies, and those against them.

The policies discussed included policies on sex based distinction in athletics, student records with sex and gender identity, and sex based distinction in multi-user facilities.

The solicitor at tonight's meeting gave legal counsel sharing that these policies go against Title IX protections. Board members discussed one school district in Pittsburgh who adopted similar policies, and other board members reiterated that certain policies cannot be altered or instated, because of Title IX protections.

One resident of Crawford County shared his reaction to the board's discussion.

“My logic behind it is this: anybody can be whatever they want to be, that’s fine, but let's not forget the ones that have naturally stayed whatever they were. No matter how you want to look at it, as politically correct as you can put it, how about their rights? How do you keep them protected just as well as the ones who want to switch or be whatever they want to be,” Bill Nemeth from French Creek Township said.
