It's been three weeks since Jonah Allgeier received his new heart on Easter Sunday.

He is out of the hospital after receiving a heart transplant. Mark Fuhrman, Jonah's grandfather explained, "He's doing well. It's a normal post transplant experience right now, there's some bumps in the road, but he's doing well."

Although, a time of celebration for Jonah, it doesn't come without a cost. Mike Allgeier, a Lion's Club member said, "It's just a fantastic thing and we also feel for the family that have been the donors and the child that helped him so we just have to pray for them as well."

Hundreds of community members turned out to a pancake breakfast at St. Boniface to show their support in the next chapter of Jonah's Journey. "It's fantastic, we have the eclipse recently, and this practically surpasses it because that was two minutes of time and this is just ongoing", said Allgeier.

The Lion's Club, alongside the Giving Circle and local boy scouts all helped organize the fundraiser in Jonah's honor. It wasn't just the pancake breakfast that people could enjoy, there was also a 100 gift baskets that were donated by community members all the help Jonah and his family as they navigate a new normal.

Fuhrman said strangers have shown support to their family after hearing about Jonah's story, "It's just overwhelming, people have donated 100 gift baskets for the Chinese auction and the turnout has just been remarkable." Fuhrman believes over 600 people attended.

The goal for COTA for Jonah's Journey is $300,000 to help cover ongoing medical expenses and costs. If you missed the benefit, Fuhrman said they have plenty more planned. To donate, click here.
