Selena King, who ran against fellow Democrat, Jim Wertz for the 49th District for the State Senate gathered with supporters, friends and family at Pineapple Eddie as the results came in on Tuesday evening.

After a hard-fought campaign, King acknowledged defeat against Wertz just after 9:00 p.m.

This came after King said she spent the day doing last minute campaigning and heading around the county to different polling locations.

King campaigned on education, health care and jobs.

King shared what she learned about herself through campaigning, "I definitely believe that we need someone that's always going to fight for us and that's what I'm going to continue to do, that's what I've always done for the last decade plus and that's what I'm going to continue to do for everyone, regardless of the results of the election and also what I will do in my every day job. I believe in Northwest Pennsylvania and the people of Erie, so that's what I'm going to continue to do is fight for the people of Erie."

Wertz will take on Dan Laughlin for the 49th District seat for State Senate in November.
