Renovations have been completed at the Warren County Jail following the escape of Michael Burham, a convicted criminal who led police on a nine-day manhunt this past summer.

Since the escape of Burham, authorities at the Warren County Jail have been working hard to make improvements.

Erie News Now Bureau Reporter, Jackie Palmer, was offered a limited access tour to see the results.

“The commissioners last year agreed for a contractor to come in," stated Rusty Barr, Warren County Jail Warden. "It's new and improved all the way across the top of the yard. The exercise equipment was taken out of the yard, and there were several modifications to make it a more secure facility."

After Burhams’s escape, contractors were hired on by the County to correct deficiencies in the roof of the jail yard. Improvements to the facility also included new deterrents and screens to protect the facility against future escape attempts.

“The last thing we need is another incident," stated Ken Klakamp, Warren County Commissioner. "The commissioners have taken steps, and correctional staff, who do a wonderful job, have taken steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I think everyone learned something from that, and it’s not something we want to experience again.”

“We have an exceptional staff here at the Jail and we are all working together as a team to make it a safer, better place." Barr added. "That is the most important thing.”
