The Friends of the Erie County Library saw plenty of donations pour in as part of their as they held one of their annual Drive-Thru book drives on Saturday.

People had to be patient and wait while dropping off gently used or new items like books, cds, dvds and puzzles.

Benjamin "Hank" Barbour, the President of the Friends of the Erie County Library explained, "All of the books that we received today through donations will be going to our book sales. We have several book sales a year."

The money raised from the book sales goes to support the programs that enrich the lives of children and adults. As Barbour explained, "Some of the programs we fund are both adult programs and children's programs. We do all the reading programs for kids. We fund the ideal lab and any special events or programs that are held in the summer are all funded by the friends of the Erie Library."

There was so much support that there was a little bit bit of a traffic buildup as cars were making their way in to drop off their gently used to donated books and other media materials.

Volunteers young and old helped unload cars and sort the books. As a volunteer of almost 40 years, Marion Gallivan said it was heartwarming to see the younger generation take over and help out.

"There's lots of support from all over the community. It's really encouraging and telling us that there is a belief in the libraries. The importance will carry our young people, they are enthusiastic about seeing books and reading, and I'm excited for them", said Gallivan.

But the support doesn't end on Saturday, the Friends of the Erie County Library will be using their books for their May Sale and the Great American Book Sale in the summer.

Saturday was also Independent Bookstore Day, a chance to support local bookstores and local authors in the community. Several of our local bookshops participated in this event as well.
