The Sunflower Sprouts Consignment Sale wrapped up this weekend at Sinani Sports. In a time of rising costs, shoppers said it was welcome relief to find quality items at a discounted price.

Shopping used to be a fun and enjoyable activity for some, but with inflation, it has become a stressful one. But consignment sales have brought the joy back for parents.

Jen Stickle, the owner of Sunflower Sprouts explained, "Consignment sales can surprise you these are name brand toys, like Cocomelon, you got name brand clothes, like Speedo at fractions of a cost. A lot of things are new, so you might be really surprised what you can find at a consignment sale."

Stickle is no stranger to the thrifting game, she said with a large family it's the only way she's made it work. "I have kids from ages ranging from nine through nineteen and I’ve been doing this for fifteen years and it’s the only way we’ve been able to afford our kids. It’s just such a blessing to be able to buy things that are used gently that we can have that have so much life left and the kids can still wear", said Stickle.

Shoppers agree, raising children can get expensive, so when they have the opportunity to get games, toys, even clothing for their children at a discounted rate they take advantage of it.

Blake Mariani and Lauren Pedsen were on the hunt for some clothes for their growing family and found great deals alongside other baby gear. As Pedsen explained, "Really good deals on stuff, instead of spending money like full price on stuff, you can come here and then find really, really decently price things."

Pedsen also said with how fast children grow, shopping second-hand makes the most financial sense. "Kids go through your stuff very, very quickly. Getting discounted stuff, that’s the best, cause kids wear shoes for like two days and they ruined", said Pedsen.

Besides the great discounts, Stickle said another perk of consignment sales is the sustainability aspect. "People throw out hundred pounds of clothing a year and we don’t need to, we can recycle the clothing, if it’s stained and teared, and then we can keep using it, but we can still keep using the clothing that are clean and just that are still good", said Stickle.

The Sunflower Sprouts Consignment Sale will be back in Erie the first weekend in October.
