North East was full of lit up red lights showing its support for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's "Light the Night," honoring fallen firefighters and their families.

Fuller Hose Company made sure to pay tribute to fallen firefighter Shawn Giles.

"North East is a supportive community but I never thought it would take off like it did in such a short amount of time," said Adele Giles, Shawn's wife.

Adele saw this week was coming up and she decided to act.

"I was able to find a company that helped me get some light bulbs.

I purchased 1,000 light bulbs and before I knew it I had to buy an additional 500 so that is amazing and this all has happened in six or seven weeks, so it is impressive," Giles said.

"People have come out from Erie, Millcreek and beyond to buy light bulbs here in our local community.

"Not only is it an honor for Shawn but it is an honor for every fallen firefighter that has come before him and will come after him," said Chris Skrekla, Fuller Hose Company president.

One of the goals of Light the Night is to get all 50 states around the country to show their support for fallen firefighters which Skrekla said he sees as a worthy cause.

Both he and Giles said raising awareness for those who have paid the ultimate price is incredibly important.

"Most people think they are going to go to work or the fire department for their shift and volunteer and expect to come home and like Jim Crotty said at the funeral 100 times a year there is probably a firefighter that is not going to go home," Skrekla said.

"Sometimes they end up giving their life and in this case Shawn did so I think it is an appreciation for what we do as firemen and firewomen," Giles said.
