Laura Smith of Erie has earned the rank of Eagle Scout after completing 58 merit badges over four years while being a member of Troop 104 G of the Boy Scouts of America.

A ceremony honoring Smith's achievements will be held at Luther Memorial Church on May 11 at 1 p.m.

Smith is a founding member of Troop 104 G and has held many positions of leadership in the troop from Scribe to Senior Patrol Leader.

She currently holds the highest youth leadership position as Lodge Chief of Langundowi Lodge. Smith is the first female ever to hold this position.

“It’s been an honor watching Laura grow from a shy young girl to a thoughtful outspoken leader,” said
Rich Smith, Laura’s father and current Scoutmaster of Troop 104 G. “The impact that scouting has had
on her life, will benefit everyone she comes in contact with for the rest of her life.”

Additionally, Smith is involved in Sea Scouts Ship 2532 in Erie and has worked on Camp Staff at the French Creek Council's Custaloga Town Scout Reservation since 2021.
