The Community Blood Bank is in critical need of O-Negative and O-Positive Blood Types.

In order to encourage donors to give blood, the blood bank is offering new incentives. The first 25 donors that give at the Erie Donor Center on May 9 or May 10, will receive a Stan's Garden Center Geranium. All donors will receive a Support Local T-shirt.

Additionally, throughout the month of May donors will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of two sets of kayaks and paddles. The drawing will take place on Friday, May 17.

According to the blood bank, blood shortages have far-reaching consequences, impacting medical treatments, childbirth procedures and individuals with blood disorders or conditions requiring regular transfusions.

Representatives from the blood bank said each blood donation has the potential to save multiple lives, making it critical and invaluable contribution to the well-being of our community.

The blood bank will be hosting the following blood drive to help meet the need of area hospitals:

  • UPMC Hamot: 201 State St, Erie, PA 16550
